Speaking of South Tyrol one thing might be interesting: the day the German Wehrmacht marched in ? that was the 98th mountain infantry regiment from Mittenwald ? one company marched toward the Brenner from Innsbruck with motorized units. Right away there were rumours saying South Tyrol would be liberated. That was already in the first phase. That they stopped at the Brenner to prevent anybody from fleeing the Reich is a different story. But that was the mood at the time. People thought things were looking up for South Tyrol. These are facts of the beginning which caused confusion. And so resistance wasn't even thought about at the beginning.
